Short Course: Designed for children ages 6 and up and those who prefer to avoid the rigors of a long and sustained descent. This race is approximately 6km. The course begins in a mass start on the Stowe Recreation Path at 8:30 A.M. (exact location TBD) and follows the final leg of the Long Course. Course subject to change.
Long Course Races: Ages 13 and up. 20 km course. We offer two separate divisions - freestyle and classical.
The Freestyle race starts at 10 A.M. with five racers every 30 seconds. Freestyle means you can ski in this race any way you that you want (skate, alpine, telemark, split board, it,s all good although we strongly recommend you stick to the skating gear). Remember, you cannot change equipment during the race!
The Classical race starts at 12:15 NOON (exact time to be confirmed based on snow conditions and course) with the same starting format. The track will be set all the way to the finish line for classical racers. Computer timing stops at 2:30 P.M. If you are caught skating in the classical division you will be disqualified! If you are unsure of which course to sign up for, most likely you will want to enter the Freestyle course. Please contact
if you have further questions.
Derby Meister: EXPERTS ONLY! Derby Meister participants compete in back-to-back Freestyle and Classical races and are included in the individual Freestyle and Classical results (but not illegible to win a prize in "age" category) in addition to Derby Meister results. Racers do not have to use the same pair of skis for the Freestyle and Classical races but must use the same pair to complete each of those individual races. The Derby Meister is for EXPERTS only and limited to the first 50 entrants.

Pins awarded in the spirit of HISTORY of the race
The Stowe Derby pins were reintroduced in 2009 with ONE single goal... to bring back a part of the race's history, the main reason why this race originated. Who can ski the distance the fastest? On alpine, on nordic, men, women, who is the fastest person that day? And now, who can ski within a percentage of THAT one fastest time of the day.
There is no question that more men may earn the pins. There is no question that chances are that a perhaps only a handful of women will ski fast enough to be within the tight time frame set by the fastest winner. These specific awards are not meant to discriminate but are solely presented in the spirit of the origins of the Stowe Derby. That is what makes those pins so special. And for all the women who have earned a pin, we salute you, a Stowe Derby Pin is the highest award one can earn.
