2013 Course

Short Course:  Designed for children ages 6 and up and those who prefer to avoid the rigors of a long and sustained descent. This race is approximately 6km. The course begins in a mass start on the Stowe Recreation Path at 8:30 A.M. (exact location TBD) and follows the final leg of the Long Course. Course subject to change.

Long Course Races: Ages 13 and up. Race distance is approximately 20 km but will be determined closer to the race date. We offer two separate divisions - freestyle and classical.

The Freestyle race starts at 10am with five racers every 30 seconds. Freestyle means you can ski in this race any way you that you want (skate, alpine, telemark, split board, it,s all good although we strongly recommend you stick to the skating gear). Remember, you cannot change equipment during the race!

The Classical race starts at 12NOON (exact time to be confirmed based on snow conditions and course) with the same starting format. The track will be set all the way to the finish line for classical racers. Computer timing stops at 3:00 P.M. If you are caught skating in the classical division you will be disqualified! If you are unsure of which course to sign up for, most likely you will want to enter the Freestyle course. Please contact This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. Derby Meister: EXPERTS ONLY! Derby Meister participants compete in back-to-back Freestyle and Classical races and are included in the individual Freestyle and Classical results (but not illegible to win a prize in "age" category) in addition to Derby Meister results. Racers do not have to use the same pair of skis for the Freestyle and Classical races but must use the same pair to complete each of those individual races. The Derby Meister is for EXPERTS only and limited to the first 50 entrants.

Even if you picked up your bib early, we encourage EVERYONE to use the free shuttle provided on race day. Please help us keep the traffic down on the Mountain Road. Personal rides to the mountain are NOT encouraged and only contribute to horrendous traffic that lead to extra work for our road shovelers and racers missing their start because of road congestion. USE THE PUBLIC TRANSPORTATION PROVIDED!

Bib pickup starts at 7:30am and ends at 10am at Stowe High School.

If you are racing in the Fat Derby, find out where to pick up you bib pick up here.

Course Map

Snow or weather conditions may determine course route modifications. A final map of the course will be available at bib pick up at the Stowe High School.  This is an example of the course set for 2016.  The 2017 course will be determined closer to the race date and snow conditions.

Transportation

Short course: Shuttle buses to mass start depart at 8:00 from High School.

Long course and Derby Meister buses: Shuttle buses to Mt. Mansfield Base Lodge start at 8:30 am.

WE STRONGLY ENCOURAGE ALL RACERS TO USE THE FREE SHUTTLE PROVIDED. PERSONAL RIDES TO THE MOUNTAIN ARE NOT RECOMMENDED AS THEY ONLY CONTRIBUTE TO HORRENDOUS TRAFFIC ON THE MOUNTAIN ROAD - THIS ALSO MEANS MORE WORK FOR OUR ROAD SHOVELERS, AND RACERS MISSING THEIR STARTS DUE TO CONGESTION. PLEASE USE THE PUBLIC TRANSPORTATION PROVIDED TO THE START AT THE MOUNTAIN, AND BACK FROM THE FINISH TO YOUR CAR. Plus, taking the bus is part of the fun!

Derby Meister and Fat Meister racers ARE THE ONLY EXCEPTION, and need to organize their own transportation back to the mountain for the second leg of the race.

The last bus leaves the Stowe High School at 10:30 am. ALL RACERS AND SUPPORT MUST PARK AT THE STOWE HIGH SCHOOL.

The Race FINISHES At the Stowe High School where you will be reunited with your car and the clothes you left at the start.

Fat Derby and Fat Meister - READ your instructions carefully here.
